Dr Eleanor Nwadinobi joined SDDirect in 2012 as a Gender Advisor. She is currently Senior Adviser in the SDDirect team that is supporting delivery of the Nigeria Resource and Support Hub (RSH).
Eleanor is a medical doctor and an International Health, Women Peace and Security, Gender and Human Rights expert. She holds a European Union Masters' in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA) from Venice, Italy.
Dr Nwadinobi is currently the International President of the Medical Women's International Association (MWIA). The MWIA is an association of female medical doctors in nearly 90 countries, and Dr Nwadinobi is the first Nigerian to hold this position in its 100-year history.
Dr Nwadinobi was the first Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Chair of the United Nations NGO/DPI Executive Committee.
She is passionate about bringing an end to violence against women and girls. As President of the Widows Development Organisation, Dr Nwadinobi joined in advocating for the law protecting widows in Enugu State, the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act at Federal level and most recently Abia State VAPP act. She is Co-founder of the Every Woman Treaty, a coalition advocating for a global treaty to end violence against women and girls (VAWG). She was lead researcher on Gender Based Violence World Bank, Women for Nigeria.
Dr Nwadinobi has contributed to the Women, Peace and Security agenda in Nigeria as the Co-country Representative for the Working Group on Women Youth Peace and Security for West Africa and Sahel (WYPS - WAS). Dr Nwadinobi worked with DFID - Funded Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP) as the Women and Girls Manager to support the Nigerian Government in drafting and launching their first and second National Action Plan (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security (WPS). In 2017, she worked with the British High Commission in Abuja, as the Women, Peace and Security Lead, and Gender Advisor. In 2018, she was Team Lead and Gender Expert on the drafting team for AU stabilisation, recovery and resilience strategy for the Lake Chad basin countries affected by Boko Haram (Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria).From 2019 to 2020, she was Gender Advisor to the Nigeria Policing Program (NPP).
Dr Nwadinobi sits on the boards of several National and International Organisations. She has authored several publications and received numerous awards of merit. Her personal profile is featured in Friedrich Ebert Stiftung publication 'The hands that build Nigeria: Nigerian women role models', and in the 'Encyclopedia of WHO is WHO' for the medical profession in Nigeria.
Dr Nwadinobi is also an international public speaker and has made presentations around the world, including at the United Nations NGO Consultation Day and at the United Kingdom's House of Commons.
